2024 LOCKSS Community Meeting

The LOCKSS community invites current LOCKSS network representatives and those interested in community-based digital preservation networks to their meeting to be held at Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Brussels, following the iPRES 2024 conference on Saturday, September 21, 2024. ULB is a short train ride from Ghent, and convenient for those with return travel out of Brussels, Amsterdam, and Paris.

This will be the first LOCKSS community meeting since 2019, and a welcome opportunity for many colleagues to connect in person. For those new to LOCKSS, this will be a unique venue for you to discover a rich and vibrant digital preservation community, as well as the major transformations underway within it. 

Thanks to generous sponsorship from ULB, there is no fee for participating, but advance registration by August 1 is requested for those wishing to attend in person or online.

Venue

The meeting will be held at the Humanities Libraries, Bibliothèque des Sciences Humaines Simone Veil, located on the Solbosch Campus - Building NB - level 5. Travel

ULB is located in a prestigious neighborhood in the South of Brussels.

From Ghent: For those traveling from Ghent via train, the closest station accessible from Ghent Saint-Peters (EN) - Gent Sint-Pieters (NL) - Gand Saint-Pierre (FR) is Brussels-Central (EN) - Brussel-Centraal (NL) - Bruxelles-Central (FR). The trip takes 35-40 minutes and starts at €10.80. Tickets and schedule information are available online from the SNCB train planner.

From Brussels airport (BRU): Just 17 minutes by train from Brussels Airport - Zaventem station (located in the airport terminal, level -2) to Brussels-Central station, BRU is a major European hub for airlines including Lufthansa, with daily flights to over 200 destinations. Use the SNCB train planner to check schedules and book tickets online for your airport connection.

From Paris-Roissy Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport: Convenient train and bus options from CDG to Brussels-South (EN) - Brussel-Zuid (NL) - Bruxelles-Midi (FR) train station include: nonstop and connecting high-speed rail service by TGV, Inoui or Eurostar from Paris Aéroport Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle Terminal 2 TGV station (at the nexus between terminals 2C, 2D, 2E and 2F); nonstop high-speed rail service by Eurostar from Gare du Nord station (in central Paris, accessible via the RER line B train from Aéroport CDG Terminal 2 station, also at the nexus between terminals 2C, 2D, 2E and 2F); or nonstop bus service by BlaBlaCar Bus from the Gare routière Roissypôle coach terminal (between terminals 1 and 3).

From Paris-Orly (ORY) airport: Nonstop high-speed rail service by Eurostar is available from Gare du Nord station (in central Paris, accessible from the airport via the Orlyval train and connecting at Antony station to the RER line B train) to Brussels-South (EN) - Brussel-Zuid (NL) - Bruxelles-Midi (FR) station.

Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) airport: Train and bus options from AMS to Brussels include: nonstop high-speed rail service by Eurostar or NS International from Schiphol station (in the airport terminal) to Brussels-South (EN) - Brussel-Zuid (NL) - Bruxelles-Midi (FR) station; or direct bus service by Flixbus from the Schiphol Airport coach terminal to Brussels Airport - Zaventem or Brussels-North (EN) - Brussel-Noord (NL) - Bruxelles-Nord train stations. Use Schiphol's excellent travel planning site to figure out your ideal route to or from Amsterdam's busiest airport. Bus, train, car, rideshare, bike, and taxi options are all available.

Hotel

We do not have a room block reserved, but the following hotels are recommended for their proximity to our meeting spaces at ULB. Both hotels have a range of amenities, including restaurant, fitness center, and on-site parking, and both can accommodate small pets for an additional charge. Availability is limited; we recommend booking soon as possible if you plan to attend the meeting in person!

The Hotel provides stunning views on Brussels city center and is steps away from the vibrant city center and iconic landmarks, including the Grand Place, a 15-minute walk away.

The ULB campus can be reached in 20 min.  by taking tram 8 from Louise tram stop to ULB stop.
