LOCKSS 1.77 Released and LOCKSS 2.0-alpha7 Available for Testing
The LOCKSS Program is pleased to announce that LOCKSS 1.77 is released and that LOCKSS 2.0-alpha7 is now available for testing.
LOCKSS 2.0.71-alpha7 is the first release in the LOCKSS 2.0-alpha7 series, the seventh step on the road to LOCKSS 2.0. Its major features are the LOCKSS Crawler Service (a new component managing crawlers, including the classic LOCKSS crawler and a new Wget-based crawler), significant performance improvements (including substantial reductions in memory requirements), and numerous bug fixes and adjustments throughout the system. Many of these performance improvements and bug fixes are also featured in LOCKSS 1.77.3, the first release in the LOCKSS 1.77 series. Further details can be found in the 1.77.3 release notes and 2.0.71-alpha7 release notes.
We invite all LOCKSS 1.x users to upgrade production systems to 1.77.3. We also invite 2.0-alpha5 or 2.0-alpha6 testers to upgrade test systems to 2.0.71-alpha7, and new alpha testers to install 2.0.71-alpha7 for the first time on a test machine. Finally, we invite interested parties to use the migration tool included in LOCKSS 1.77 (and 1.76) to try out migrating content from an existing LOCKSS 1.x box to a test LOCKSS 2.x box.
As always, we welcome your feedback, as we continue to improve the LOCKSS system and as LOCKSS 2.x progresses toward beta status.
